What is Aerial Pilates?

Aerial Pilates  involves practicing Pilates exercises in the air by suspending the body, or parts of the body in a fabric hammock.  The fabric hammock is suspended close to the ground over Pilates mats.

Is it suitable for beginners?

Of course! Beginners start by practicing exercises on the floor with the assistance of the Pilates hammock, then  advance to exercises that require full body suspension a few inches off the floor.

How high off the floor will I be?

The silk hammock is suspended close to the ground, about ½ a metre, which creates an unstable work environment that will challenge your Pilates practice and core strength.

What makes Aerial Pilates so unique?

Aerial Pilates draws elements and fundamentals from Pilates and aerial arts. It is not only a fun way to exercise and stay fit but also a great training tool for practicing good quality patterns of movement. It can also help you to face fears in a supportive environment. It’s a great way to find and create a balance of letting go, finding inner strength and gaining self-awareness which in the air and inverted is a very unique beautiful experience.

About Becky

Hello! I’m Becky Robertson and I’ve been in the Pilates Industry since 2009. I begin as a Modern Apprentice in the Realistic Pilates office before going on to train with The EnergyWise Academy as a fitness instructor in 2013 and then as a Pilates instructor in 2014. I first tried Aerial Pilates in May 2015 and was completely hooked after my first session with Debbie. After completing further Aerial Pilates workshops, I trained as an Air Control Aerial Pilates instructor in January 2016, on the first ever Aerial Pilates teacher training course. I am so excited to share this workshop with you and the confidence boost and empowerment Aerial Pilates brings… see you soon!

About Debbie

Debbie Robbins has worked in the fitness industry for over 18 years and has taught Pilates for over 13 years. Whilst Debbie was training in aerial arts and teaching Pilates at the same time,  she was trying to find a balance and understanding in both of her trainings. She found that combining them together brought a beautiful balance of requiring strength, awareness and learning to release whilst being suspended mid air. Debbie started teaching aerial Pilates classes in Edinburgh in 2013 and after much consideration, is proud to be launching Air Control Pilates teacher training for Pilates instructors in 2016.
